AUTO PILOT

“What am I waiting for? We had the time, but I let it slip away…”

Singing along to the car radio a few years ago, I pulled into the right lane so I would be ready. The exit I would normally take to get onto the AA Highway was coming up just ahead.

But Whoa! That’s when I remembered that this was NOT one of the days I nanny our grandsons, so I stayed straight and headed for Cincinnati where my appointment was.

I had been on AUTO PILOT.

Good thing I came to my senses just in time! Turning around to take the appropriate route would have added several more minutes to my drive and I would certainly have been late.

My mind started to search through my memory bank. When have I been on auto pilot before?

Maybe there’s a story I’d like to jot about that.

Nope...Nothing came to mind.

Is God trying to get my attention and convey a love message…nudging me to live more intentionally?

Could be, but my heart wasn’t sensing that either.

I found myself humming the “High and low, high and low, up in the sky and away we go” tune that accompanies Fisher Price’s L’il Movers airplane. Our grandson Lincoln had just learned to push the button that activates the song, and was delighting in “flying” it around his room. Over and over, of course…until the melody had become rooted in my memory.

Following the flow of memories, I recalled how much fun it had been to take my daughter Sara (Lincoln’s mom) on her 1st flight when she was about five.  Williamsburg was her inaugural sky voyage, but it turns out that she has become quite a world traveler.

Kind of like her mom.

Whoa again! I just realized that even though we had plenty of time to talk on a cruise we took together, I still haven’t actually shared with her all the other places I’ve been, or compared notes about our favorites.

Seems that there are some stories (about travel adventures and other stuff that may flow out) to be jotted down and some mother-daughter sharing in my future.
