BEAR HUGS WITH DAD

For this Father’s Day, will you (or your children or grandlittles) be looking into his twinkly eyes and graying hair in person or on your device during a Facetime or Zoom session?

Will you be mailing or leaving his gift (another tie or soap-on-a-rope lol;) on the front porch and blowing kisses as you leave without giving and receiving a heart-felt bear hug...that has become a Dad-and-you THING during the years?

The one where he lifts you off the floor and you both spin around until he gets dizzy and you fall down laughing, huddled together.

What if you thought about his gift differently this year?

What if you took that one thing (the bear hug, or whatever IT is for you) and let him know how much it has meant to you?

For example, all it takes is jotting down a bit about that hug, how and when it might have started, your first memory of it, and some other times you’ve experienced it.

As you may have guessed, I decided to do this myself. Even though my Dad passed away many years ago, I captured the bear hug times that still choke me up with laughter and tears.

Like after the training wheels came off my blue and white Schwinn bike with the handlebar bell and I rode down our sidewalk to the neighbor’s driveway for the first time on my own, without Dad holding on alongside me. He was so proud of my perseverance that he grabbed me off the bike into his arms, and we twirled oblivious to the bike's careening into the neighbor's parked car and dinging the front fender a bit.

Or the moments right before Dad walked me down the aisle...except for the falling down part, of course…but we did twirl locked in our signature bear hug as he whispered into my ear how beautiful I looked and how much he would always love his little girl! ❤️

I jotted these down, found some photos of Dad hugging (that brought up the same emotions, even if they weren’t of me) and started a little mini-stories booklet I’m calling Moments with Dad.

If he was still with us, I would gift it to him. For now, I’m adding it to other jottings in my Legacy of Memories collection of personal and family moments.

But first I’m sharing these snippets of my life with their great Grandpa Barker with our grandchildren when we Facetime them on Sunday to wish their dad a Happy Father’s Day.

How about you?

What memories would you like to re-live, share

and preserve about moments with your Dad?

I’d love to support you in uncovering which memories mean the most to you and capturing them, with ease. How fulfilling it will be to remember, share and preserve your heart-stories for years to come! Let’s chat about getting started today!

JOYfully jotting,

Katie
